1.9.2023 Board Book
expense differences between New York City, NY & San Antonio, TX. Currently, the OMA conference locales are booked through Spring of 2027. These situations, coupled with many other factors (staff efficiencies, overall costs, etc.) is why 2024 hopes to be much more favorable because of the move to the Spring Main & Fall-Focused conference(s) concept. • The Adult Obesity Algorithm® print version is an important OMA product, & while the average per month sales for this product is 14, we are hopeful with the release of the updated product in early 2023, this number will increase because there was not a release of this product in FY2022. The total revenue for this product in FY2022 through 11/2022 is $14K & with the updated release, we are hopeful that this revenue projection will double. • The Fundamentals of Obesity Courses continue to be offered (3) virtually and (1) in person for Spring 2023 continue to be a valuable revenue asset for OMA, as the course has become so well known simply by word of mouth, we have come to allocate minimal marketing dollars to these, & they are relatively inexpensive from a delivery format as well. We continue to experience an average of 140 attendees at these courses with an average registration fee of $210/attendee. • The revenue opportunity from corporate (vendor/partner) education continues to be uncertain from year to year due to our corporate sponsors’ own internal fiscal constraints in supporting such endeavors. While we actively partner with these organizations, we do not depend on lunch symposia or dine-arounds as revenue opportunities we can consistently count on, because many vendors report that they can only attend one of our two in-person meetings per year if at all. Many of the considerations as noted above account for much of the income from operations loss projected for FY2023, & in lieu of this, we will leverage the spending distribution policy of up to 4% of a 12-quarter average which is calculated on 12/31/2022 as approved per the OMA Investment Policy for Investment Account Assets. Although this total income amount is currently unknown, it is projected that the total will be approximately $150K, which will be moved into OMA’s operational costs to offset the current projected losses.
For example, if $150K is realized, the current projected loss is roughly $375K, which is close to the projected loss that was presented in the FY2022 budget.
Further, although the expenses are included in the FY2023 budget, the organization may strategically consider “opting out” of participating in other professional societal meetings such as EASO, ASMBS, TOS or others.
