OMA BOT Book 4.24.2024

AMA Delegate Policy

I)

I motion that we reaffirm the amended AMA delegate policy.

Submitted by: Ethan Lazarus, MD, FOMA

Explanation:

Our current AMA policy was accepted in September 2017, so is due for either reaffirmation, revision, or sunsetting per our policy. Your policy committee feels that this needs some significant revision. AMA delegates do a lot of work for the society. During the term of this policy, your delegates, for the most part, have been board members. However, we need to plan for a time when perhaps the AMA delegates are not board members. Your Policy Committee feels the old policy was not generous enough in terms of benefits to the AMA delegates, and had some unnecessary strings attached. We recommend a travel package similar to current OMA BOT members for OMA conferences along with recognition on the OMA Web site. We further recommend a call for applications so we identify interested OMA members. In addition, Tony Auriemma will be attending the AMA Annual Meeting in June 2024 as our delegate, as I am unable to attend this annual meeting. He has also announced this will be his final meeting serving as our alternate delegate. I am planning on continuing as your delegate, but not forever. At this time, I am undecided if I will continue beyond my board service. I do recommend you appoint your delegates to 4 year terms, and that those terms be listed and updated on the OMA web site. II) As an additional item of business, Tony Auriemma will be rotating off as our alternate delegate after this meeting. We can either appoint an alternate delegate to begin at this meeting, or we can call for applications and appoint at a future time. III) Ideas for appointees: Carl Knopke, Tiffani Bell, Jennifer Paisley
