Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) STRATEGIC PLAN OVERVIEW

Vision People with the Disease of Obesity are Comprehensively Diagnosed and Treated

Mission Clinicians Provide Compassionate Evidence-Based Obesity Care through Sustainable Care Models

Support Coverage and Reimbursement Goal: Obesity treatment is equitably covered. (2)

Educate Providers Goal: Clinicians understand obesity as a disease and are able to either provide unbiased, evidence-based care or refer patients to an obesity medicine specialist. (3) • Diverse, Quality CME – Deliver integrated, multi channel and inclusive continuing medical education ensuring clinicians understand and practice evidence based obesity care. • Pathways to Expertise – Create a roadmap outlining a process supporting clinicians interested in moving from novice to expert. • NP/PA Advancement – Promote the Certificate of Advanced Education and increase recognition of the value of this Certificate. • Clinical Practice Support – Create and disseminate clinical practice statements and algorithms.

Research Goal: Validate and disseminate evidence based research on obesity care. (4)

Increase OMA Recognition Goal: OMA is the most respected, recognized, and cited source for obesity diagnosis and treatment. (1)

Quality Measures and Outcomes – Identify, evaluate, and disseminate information on successful obesity health outcomes. Science-Focused Content – Create opportunities to learn about and discuss the emerging science of obesity medicine. Obesity Standard of Care – Develop obesity treatment guidelines and/or standards of care.

Scientific Outreach – OMA is the recognized venue for publication of new research relevant to clinical obesity care in Obesity Pillars . Journal Expansion – Expand the impact of Obesity Pillars . Obesity Awareness – Increase collaboration with relevant professional organizations expanding awareness and understanding of obesity as a disease. OMA Educational Outreach – Promote education, participation, and representation at conferences, courses, and meetings .

Obesity Reimbursement Advocacy – Increase collaboration with stakeholders promoting reimbursement for evidence based obesity care. Provider Support – Educate and provide resources to support professional efforts resulting in appropriate coverage for treatment. Patient Support – Patients receive equitable and adequate coverage for FDA-approved anti-obesity medications.

Inclusive, Growing Member/Stakeholder Base Goal: D iverse and engaged network of members and other stakeholders committed to modern evidence-based obesity treatment. (5)

Good Stewardship of Resources Goal: Responsible stewardship of human, financial and operational systems to support implementation of the Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals. (6) • Operational Alignment – Align staff capacity and competencies with the Strategic Plan. • Diverse Leadership – Increase diversity of OMA volunteer leadership. • Digital Engagement – Enhance OMA website and online communities to improve accessibility, use and value.

• Membership – Promote membership or engagement to relevant healthcare professionals. • Physician Funnel – Create targeted outreach to ABOM certified physicians promoting membership. • NP/PA Funnel – Create targeted outreach to NPs and PAs promoting membership. • Member Satisfaction – Evaluate and improve relevant programming for members by audience. • Trainee Engagement – Create accessible, affordable pathways for engagement of trainees and newer obesity medicine clinicians. • Mentoring – Enhance member mentoring relationships. • Member Communication – Communicate the activities and successes of OMA. • Engaging Experiences – Produce engaging events providing opportunities for the community of obesity medicine peers to collaborate and socialize. • Volunteer Engagement – Create expanded opportunities for participation in OMA.
