10.25.2023 OMA Board Book
If I am a non-physician member of the OMA and I want to switch my membership option to “voting” once the new bylaws take effect, when can I do this? Changes to your current membership type will be made at time of membership renewal. When you renew your membership, you will see two options that you will have “voting” or “nonvoting” options to either keep your membership “as is” or if you wish to move to a “voting” membership option.
Do the changes in the bylaws call for differing terms (length of service) on the BOT from what currently exists? No changes have been made to the terms (length of service) on the BOT
I am an Associate (or NP/PA) Member of the OMA, and my membership is not due to be paid again until August of 2024. Once these changes are enacted, am I automatically changed to a “non-voting” member? Once it is time for you to renew, you will be given the option to select either the voting or non voting membership at that time and you are eligible to change types upon each renewal. Why is the OMA making these membership changes? One of the core strategic objectives of the OMA is to serve in advocacy roles for the patients we serve. To best represent our patients’ voice to drive legislative, policy, and practice changes, the seat at the American Medical Association’s (AMA) House of Delegates (HOD) that is held by the OMA is critical to maintain. The rules of the AMA’s HOD explicitly states the following: 1. The organization (association) must meet one of the following criteria: • At least 100 AMA members and that twenty percent (20%) of its physician members who are eligible for AMA membership are members of the AMA; or • Have been represented in the House of Delegates at the 1990 Annual Meeting and that twenty percent (20%) of its physician members who are eligible for AMA membership are members of the AMA. • 1,000 or more AMA members;
2. Physicians should comprise the majority of the voting membership of the organization.
