OMA Committees Delegates and alternates may be required to participate in up to two committees, at the discretion of the board. AMA Politics In the absence of specific direction from the board, the Delegate is tasked with voting at the annual AMA elections, and deciding whether or not to endorse candidates. The board is welcome to provide direction. Campaign Should a delegate wish to campaign for office within the AMA, he or she may petition the board to allocate resources to support the campaign. Attendance by OMA officers From time to time, other offices of the OMA may wish to attend the AMA meetings. For any given meeting, one additional member of the board may be allowed to attend the AMA meeting, pursuant to the travel policy. This may be a board member who has worked on a resolution submission, the OMA president or president-elect to attend the obesity caucus, etc. Actions by Delegates at AMA Meetings The OMA BOT entrusts its delegates to act in the best interest of the OMA. If introducing policy on behalf of the OMA, this should be approved by the OMA President, or in their absence, the person acting in this capacity. The OMA delegates carry out all actions during AMA meetings at their discression, and do not need to solicit input from the OMA BOT. The OMA delegates should report actions relevant to obesity medicine to the BOT. Recognition Delegates will have their picture and bio posted alongside the OMA BOT on the OMA Website, and be allowed to contribute relevant content, at the discretion of the OMA ED, to the OMA member newsletter.
