and Follow up, 2020). The pediatric obesity quality measure was never endorsed by NQF.

Overall, the pediatric measure for weight assessment and the adult BMI measure for prevention

care and screening are the only two obesity quality measures still current and implemented within a few

payment programs (i.e., MIPS, Medicaid and HEDIS) (Table 2). Both measures lack NQF endorsement,

but as previously stated, it is not a requirement for implementing quality measures. Further, while these

measures are not used widely, obesity is recognized by the government and payer organizations as a key

population health topic to measure. Until new measures are developed and implemented, the original

measures stand.

Over years of continuing evaluation and review, experts in the field identified that obesity

measures were not adding meaningful value to clinical care and health outcomes for people living with
