Screening BMI measure in 2020 (NQF, Preventive Care and Screening: Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening
and Follow up, 2020). The pediatric obesity quality measure was never endorsed by NQF.
Overall, the pediatric measure for weight assessment and the adult BMI measure for prevention
care and screening are the only two obesity quality measures still current and implemented within a few
payment programs (i.e., MIPS, Medicaid and HEDIS) (Table 2). Both measures lack NQF endorsement,
but as previously stated, it is not a requirement for implementing quality measures. Further, while these
measures are not used widely, obesity is recognized by the government and payer organizations as a key
population health topic to measure. Until new measures are developed and implemented, the original
measures stand.
