Forging a connection w/the American College of Physicians (ACP) re: obesity care https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/american-college-of-physicians-announces-initiative-to advance-equitable-access-to-obesity-care-301811139.html : - ACP has made a statement on their efforts in obesity care and as such, the OMA would be interested in forming a formal connection with them and providing support for their endeavors if needed. The EC does not have a specific person(s) they know within the ACP, however, Dr. Fitch plans on contacting the ACP’s current President to offer such assistance. American Medical Association (AMA) & Obesity Canada Meetings/Collaborations - Dr. Bays shares that he will be giving the AMA a presentation on artificial intelligence. Further, Obesity Canada has approached the OMA about collaboration on their projects centered around educational competencies for their medical schools in Canada, specifically their interest lies in publishing these competencies in Obesity Pillars, which Dr. Bays reports will be a valuable collaboration. Review of Patient-Facing Handouts for OMA’s Advocacy Committee (AOM Advocacy/Talking Points Handout + Compounded Peptides Handout) - Dr. Fitch shares that there has been some good feedback among the EC on these handouts that can be incorporated into a final version to share with OMA’s membership. Mrs. Fraker will continue overseeing the suggested edits and she will distribute a final copy of the documents to Dr. Rebecca Andrick, who chairs the OMA’s Advocacy Committee as well as distributing these to the OMA’s Marketing Team for sharing in newsletters, posting on OMA’s website, and among other committees as appropriate. Treat or Refer Campaign/Project ECHO Updates - Mrs. Fraker shares that she is extremely impressed with the Project ECHO organization, having just completed the Project ECHO Partnership Training. In particular, the Project ECHO Resource Library (PERL) will provide our organization with a great deal of insights and assistance in moving the project forward. Regarding the next steps for this campaign, the OMA plans on applying for an unrestricted grant from our CAC partners and others in order to secure funding for the project. EASO 2023 Updates/Report - Standards of Care Development Updates o Dr. Fitch and Dr. Alexander shared that the work amongst OMA, Obesity Canada, TOS, ASMBS, and EASO for the standards of care for obesity care will be starting soon and the group is being led by Dr. Ard of TOS. - Obesity Roundtable/Innovation Collaborative o Dr. Fitch shared that the OMA should join the Innovation Collaborative which is a no cost committee that is part of the Obesity Roundtable through the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine based in Washington, D.C. This collaborative would allow the OMA to better understand what various groups are
