Mrs. Fraker will share these suggestions with OMA staff as they work to prepare future educational programming and marketing for what will be referred to as the OMA Summit 2024 and subsequent years. *At this juncture, Dr. Fitch called for a 15-minute break in the meeting. * The meeting was resumed at 2:22pm (CT) Local Obesity Group and Affiliations with the OMA Dr. Auriemma discussed the OMA’s support of Local Obesity Groups. He asks for the BOT to share input on what the OMA’s involvement and partnerships might look like in the future. The BOT wants to ensure the prioritization of OMA needs as well as the resources that the OMA staff can provide to support these efforts. The BOT shared that the terminology of “alliances” may be more beneficial than “partnerships”. Dr. Auriemma communicated the desire for these groups to have representation and reciprocity on the OMA’s websites, access to email contact lists, and he will create a “how to” document for those looking to get started with such an endeavor. There will be further discussions with the OMA Staff Leadership Team relative to operationalizing this concept further. Motion for the OMA Staff Leadership Team to work with Dr. Auriemma on supporting various approaches toward Local Obesity Group efforts. Strategic Plan Progress for 2023 and Strategic Plan for 2024 Mrs. Fraker shared the OMA Staff’s progress relative to the FY2023 Strategic Plan and the planned structure of the FY2024 plan. International Obesity Coalition (IOC) Advocacy Documents: Obesity Treatment versus Weight Loss and BMI Consensus Statements Dr. Fitch reviewed the OMA’s involvement with the International Obesity Coalition (IOC) and their consensus statement documents. Motion to approve the “Obesity Treatment versus Weight Loss” and “BMI” Consensus Statements. Motion passed however, there is an error in the terminology included in one of the documents, so Ms. Fraker will take this corrected edit back to the IOC leader who was the lead author on these documents to correct this prior to final release to the IOC members. December 2023 BOT Meeting Date Options The BOT selected 12/18/2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM EST to be the final BOT meeting of 2023 and Ms. Haile will place this on the BOT Members’ and Mr. Wilson’s calendars accordingly. Motion passed.
