12.18.23 OMA Board Book

host a town hall or record a video-based message to address these changes with the OMA membership. Mr. Wilson also clarified that the membership will be voting on both the considerations of the changes in membership categories as well as the additional non-physician BOT seat as a packaged Yes/No/Abstain vote. Mrs. Fraker made note of these considerations and she will continue to work closely with the OMA staff to further refine the communication plan, and she will bring this communication plan back to the BOT Meeting in 12/2023 to prepare for the 2024 vote. Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) Membership for 2024 Mrs. Fraker shares that CMSS is a non-profit organization that serves as an alliance of medical specialty societies. The CMSS provides a platform for member societies to share information, coordinate activities, and collaborate on initiatives that impact medical practice and education. The BOT discussed the possibility of the OMA applying to become a member of CMSS in 2024 and the costs associated with this membership, should the OMA be accepted. Motion for the OMA to apply to join CMSS in 2024 with a 2024 budgeted allocation for this membership (inclusive of membership, meeting attendance, travel, etc.) of $20,000 with the understanding that the OMA would be regularly updated on the value of this membership, and the opportunities for collaboration and networking with like societies, etc. over the course of a two year period (from presumed acceptance into CMSS) at which time the OMA would reevaluate the benefits and return on investment of CMSS membership. Motion passed. BOT Membership Policy Development The BOT discussed the need for rules, guidelines, and criteria related to one’s eligibility for a seat on the OMA BOT. Dr. Fitch will delegate this work to the Policy Committee to create such a policy which would be brought back to the BOT for a discussion and vote. The purpose of the policy would be outlining a set of criteria that would ensure the best interests of OMA as an organization. Mr. Wilson Mrs. Fraker spoke to the concept of the OMA’s plan for an abbreviated (smaller) “Fall- Focused” Conference which will convene in 10/2024, and she asked the BOT for their insights in to the direction that OMA should take moving toward with this concept. She shared the two format options as noted in the narrative provided in the BOT meeting materials and the BOT prefers Proposal #2, which would situate the content around (for example) , “Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease” (CVD) whereby our OM clinicians (and selected cardiology experts) could provide lectures with a specific immersion in CVD, and no other disease process. This presents an opportunity for the OM experts to avail themselves to a greater depth and breadth in the CVD implications of obesity. Further, the BOT recommended increasing the hours of CME for attendees from the current proposal presented to a closer number of 12 versus the current 8.5 hours of CME as presented on the draft plan. will further assist the Policy Committee in advising on these matters. 2024 “Fall-Focused” Conference Educational Programming Plan
