4.19.2023 Board Book
- Mrs. Fraker noted that based on those who would be selected to serve on the CAG, we could potentially invite and assemble this group at the New York, NY conference in order to begin organization for the 2024 conference, provided the timing works as such. - Regarding the logistics of this proposal, the EC discussed organizing either: a brief meeting, an anonymous vote, or sending out a preamble to gauge interest/ support to the greater BOT group prior to the conference, which Dr. Fitch will take into consideration. NYC Conference Registration Numbers Updates: - Mrs. Fraker shared with the group that the conference registration numbers currently reflect a total of 738 registrants and 687 paid as of 03/23/2023 . These numbers look great considering that OMA surpassed the 600 paid registrations that were budgeted for and filled the hotel block as well. Treat or Refer Campaign: - As a high-level overview, the Treat or Refer Campaign would serve as a resource for providers to treat obesity or refer their patients to specialists who can treat obesity effectively. Ms. Fraker sent out supporting documents to the EC in advance of this meeting for review to serve as discussion points for this strategic initiative. Dr. Fitch hopes to share this proposal with corporate partners at the upcoming CAC meeting during the New York, NY conference and gauge their interest in funding this project. - The main components of the Treat or Refer Campaign would include: 1. A website to house educational content on why obesity is a disease and the importance of non-stigmatizing care. The website would also highlight what an obesity medicine specialist is and include basic education modules. It was clarified that the treat or refer website would be a separate website from the current OMA website, but it would link from the OMA’s main website. 2. Project ECHO is a worldwide project dedicated to “moving knowledge, not people”. The OMA is looking to utilize this platform by connecting experts with non-experts by hosting monthly seminars that highlight various obesity medicine experts (physicians, dietitians, etc.). During these seminars, the expert would share their background and present cases to inform/educate the group. 3. Forming a Champions Council is the third piece of this endeavor which would provide the connection between “what is obesity medicine” and “how do you treat obesity medicine in your practice.” This group of individuals would meet quarterly to establish alignment on how clinicians deliver obesity medicine care to their patients and facilitate a similar level of practice. - The EC shares that the Treat or Refer Campaign may be a big lift but ultimately will be a very useful endeavor in serving both patients and clinicians alike. Dr. Fitch is confident that this project is very achievable based on the resources developed by the OMA. Call to Adjourn: The EC meeting was adjourned at 6:04 pm (ET) by Presiding Officer, Dr. Angela Fitch. Meeting Minutes Approved by Dr. Marisa Censani on 04/10/2023
