Problem Statement: The Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) endeavors to develop a(n) (official name TBD) "Obesity: Treat or Refer", educational campaign situated in the belief that there is a significant deficit in both the lay as well as professional medical community around the concept that obesity must be treated first before any other obesity-related illnesses (diabetes, sleep apnea, HTN, etc.) will resolve. The concept of "treat the roots, not the fruits" resonates well in understanding this concept. Further, a significant measure for primary care providers who practice within health systems must be aligned with various chronic disease models inclusive of their participation in an ACO, HEDIS, PCMH, measures and the like. In addition, CMS' eCQM measurements on population/public health, care coordination, and clinical effectiveness indicators align with this concept. Finally, the development and deployment of this campaign is a significant strategic endeavor for the OMA over the course of 2023 and beyond.
