Goal Statement: Develop a fiscally sustainable plan to realize the mission of the OMA as enumerated above to achieve the following goals in measurable and quantifiable means:
1) Increase providers' understanding of obesity as a chronic disease.
2) Increase providers' comfort level and competency in treating obesity, or for those providers who are not comfortable treating obesity, increase referrals to obesity medicine experts in their patients' communities. 3) Create, curate, and mentor a community of obesity medicine experts (potentially referred to as "obesity medicine champions") both inside and outside of health systems across the United States to offer support and education. For example, we might follow the "3D" concept of discussion, diagnosis, and direction concept as outlined by A. Alfadda (et al), "The 3Ds-Discussion, diagnosis, and direction: Further, the approach of empowering primary care clinic-based weight management programs for the multidisciplinary treatment of obesity can be done effectively if delivered by obesity medicine-trained primary care providers who were able to demonstrate clinically significant weight loss results by S. Ro (et al), "Impact of a Community-Based Weight Management Program in a North Carolina Health Care System,", https://journals.stfm.org/familymedicine/online-first/lackey-2021-0619/ Elements for effective obesity care by healthcare professionals"; https://www.ejinme.com/article/S0953-6205(21)00012-1/fulltext
